Guilty Plea: Man Caught With Semi-Automatic In Newport Last March
Andre T. Dupree, 26, of Warren, pleaded guilty today in Providence federal court to being a felon in possession of a firearm.

WARREN, RI — Last March 24, Newport police seized a loaded 9mm semi-automatic handgun and a bag containing 50 rounds of 9mm ammunition after a car stop. Andre T. Dupree, 26, of Warren, was the passenger in the car, and the gun was in his possession. Newport police arrested him. According to the U.S. Attorney's office, he was convicted in 2012 on two counts of drug trafficking. He was sentenced to 4 months incarceration followed by 5 years and 8 months probation. Newport police charged him as a felon in possession of a firearm.
On Monday, he pleaded guilty in Providence federal court. Sentencing is scheduled for Aug. 31.
