Hugh Cole Student Scientists Show Their Stuff at Science Fair

Hugh Cole 4th and 5th graders participate in the school's first-ever science fair.

Future scientists were out in full force Friday night, April 8, for the first-ever Hugh Cole School 4th and 5th grade Science Fair.

Dozens of students participated, and experiments ranged from solar energy to home power sources to the effects of light and gravity on plant growth. Many of the projects had practical applications, such as Tess McKenzie's, who determined whether consumers prefer their soft drinks with more or less carbonation. According to Tess, "soda tastes better with less sparkle."

Principal Chuck Mello credited a group of parents with the successful event, saying they took the lead, ran it, and were "faithful to the process". As for the students, he remarked "It's amazing the fine work they've done. Just incredible."
