Huskies Have Upbeat First Week of Fall Schedule

BOYS’ SOCCER
The Huskies opened their 2011 regular-season schedule by losing to Smithfield High, 5-0, in a Division II-North contest. The Sentinels zoomed to a 4-0 lead by halftime and never looked back.

Carmen Hogan tallied 2 goals and teammates Felicia Vieira, Christie Ribeiro and Catherine Lopes added 1 goal apiece as Mount Hope commenced its new season with an impressive road victory over Classical High of Providence, 5-3, in Division II-Central action. Vieira, Ribeiro and Brooke Pacheco all recorded assists and keeper Vivian Ramos collected 10 saves for the Huskies, who owned a 3-2 lead at halftime.
GIRLS’ TENNIS
Mt. Hope swept Central High of Providence, 7-0, losing just one set in its Division III-South and season debut. The Huskies won in singles’ matches with No. 1 Lauren Fletcher (6-3, 6-3), No. 2 Sophia Andreadis (7-5, 6-1), No. 3 Haley Ferreira (6-2, 6-4) and No. 4 Simone Verria (6-2, 7-6), as well in the doubles’ tilts behind No. 1 Brooke Spina/Marisa Silva (6-3, 6-1), No. 2 Sarah Leger/Lauren Manuel (6-7, 6-2, 6-3) and No. 3 Lilly Bedford/Michaela Pacheco (6-1, 6-3).
