Local Police Dog Poisoned; Handler Suspects Revenge

Westport (Mass.) Police Det. Jeff Majewski's dog, Siren, died in April. A recent autopsy showed rat poison in the dog's liver.

A local police detective said someone poisoned his German Shepherd in an act of revenge.

Five-year-old Siren, who was training to be a search and rescue dog in Rhode Island and Massachusetts, died in April. The dog’s handler, Westport (Mass.) Police Det. Jeff Majewski, told WHDH/7News that autopsy results released last week showed rat poison in the dog’s liver.

Majewski was devastated. He suspects the dog was intentionally poisoned, as someone could have tossed the rat poison over the backyard fence at this Westport home. Majewski has worked as a Westport police officer since 1989.

ā€œSiren was a family member, a trusted companion, a guardian and a friend,ā€ Majewski wrote in a letter to EastBayRI.com. ā€œThis was a cowardly act.

ā€œOne day that dog might have found a missing child or helped to locate an elderly person who wandered off from home.ā€
