Mt. Hope, Community to Participate in Project Purple
The community is asked to wear purple on Tuesday, April 24 to support the Go Purple Project.

On Tuesday, April 24, the Mosaico Youth Experiencing Success (YES!) Program at , will lead the student population in a show of support against substance use. The goal of the YES! Program is to support The Herren Project’s mission by encouraging all the students at Mt. Hope High School to wear purple on this day. The school itself will be decorated in purple on the outside as well to share its feat with the community. Our hope is that the community will join our mission.
Project Purple is an initiative of The Herren Project, a non-profit foundation established by former . Project Purple was launched to break the stigma of addiction, bring awareness to the dangers of substance abuse and shed light on effective treatment practices.
The Project Purple concept was developed when Chris spoke at Mt. Hope High School in 2011 and the front row of students were wearing Purple shirts. After Chris shared his story, one of the purple shirts raised her hand and stood up to speak. As snickering and laughter could be heard throughout the auditorium, the student said “Thank you Mr. Herren for validating what we do. We are the sober students of this high school and each year we take a pledge to not use drugs or alcohol.” Chris was captured by the courage it took to not only stand up and share the symbolism of the purple shirts, but was inspired to make a difference amongst adolescents across the United States.
In addition to encouraging all schools to participate in this event, Mr. Herren has informed us that the Prudential Building in Boston, MA will be lit purple as well to show support of this cause as well. For more information visit www.GoProjectPurple.org.
