Mt. Hope Masqueraders to Host Frightful Haunted House

The Haunted House will be open on Thursday and Friday from 5 to 9 pm.

Just in time for Halloween, the Masqueraders will be hosting a horror movie classic haunted house on Thursday, Oct. 27, and Friday, Oct. 28.

After the final school bell rang on Wednesday afternoon, more than 40 theater enthusiasts filed in to the school auditorium to start setting up for their annual haunted house.

"We only have a day to get this all together," said Shannon Ott, a junior at Mt. Hope. "We've had to set up and build things. It is a lot of work."

The haunted house theme this year is classic horror movies and will feature tunnels and separate rooms that each represent a different classic horror movie. Students also decided to make the haunted house both adult and family friendly, so groups entering the haunted house have the choice of "scary" and "not so scary" tours.

Ava Mascena, a junior at Mt. Hope, says she's no good at scaring people, so she will be volunteering at the game and concession stand for the children.

"I'm not good at scaring people because I get scared myself," Mascena said laughing. "But it is always fun to see all the kids that come."

According to Carol Schlink, the haunted house is notably the group's main fundraiser of the year and is primarily student run and organized.

"I'm very proud of the students for all of the work they put in to the haunted house," she said. "They set up, organize and direct it. I'm very excited about the enthusiasm that these students have."

The haunted house will be open on Thursday and Friday from 5 to 9 pm. Admission costs $5 for adults and $3 for children and the proceeds will be used for the Masqueraders' future performances.
