Murder Indictments in Case of Bristol Grandmother

PROVIDENCE, RI —Raymond Paiva IV, 24, and Selena Martinez, 21, both of Bristol, will stand trial for the murder of Paiva's grandmother, Eudora Gustafson.

The Providence County Grand Jury today reported out an indictment charging them, according to Atty. Gen. Peter Kilmartin.

Paiva is charged with one count of murder, one count of assault with a dangerous weapon in a dwelling, two counts of conspiracy, four counts of receiving stolen goods under $1,500, two counts of uttering and publishing, and one count of obtaining money under false pretenses under $1,500.

Martinez is charged with one count of murder, one count of assault with a dangerous weapon in a dwelling, two counts of conspiracy, four counts of receiving stolen property under $1,500, one count of uttering and publishing, and one count of obtaining money under false pretenses under $1,500.

Both are being held without bail. Their next court date is May 31.

According to court records, " it is alleged on or about February 10, 2017, Paiva and Martinez strangled and suffocated 66-year old Eudora Gustafson, causing her death. It is further alleged that the two stole three rings, assorted jewelry, half dollar coins, and a checkbook, all that belonged to Gustafson. On the same day, it is alleged that Paiva and Martinez forged and attempted to cash a $400 check from the bank account of Eudora Gustafson. Two days earlier, on February 8, 2017, Paiva forged and cashed a $100 check from the bank account of his grandfather Mark Gustafson.

"Paiva and Martinez are also accused of allegedly accessing Mark Gustafson’s bank account to purchase items from Stop & Shop between February 2, 2017 and February 6, 2017.
