New Weather Station Installed in Bristol

The station, installed by National Grid, will record temperature, wind speed and direction, precipitation, humidity, heat index and more.

Bristol is among seven Rhode Island communities that are receiving real-time and localized weather information through newly installed weather stations by National Grid.

The stations will record weather conditions in Bristol including temperature, wind speed and direction, precipitation, humidity and heat index.

These weather systems will better prepare Bristol emergency management officials and National Grid in dealing with extreme weather incidents, according to a National grid press release.

National Grid began installing stations throughout Rhode Island in July 2014.

“With the recent string of winter storms these stations are proving to be an invaluable tool for the communities in which they’re located,” said Timothy F. Horan, president of National Grid in Rhode Island, in a press release. “They’re also adding to our understanding of how storms impact our electric distribution and transmission systems and how we can be better prepared.”

National Grid is also installing weather stations across locations in Massachusetts and New York.
