Obituary: John Ferreira

The 89-year-old Bristol man will be laid to rest Saturday, Oct. 13.


Mr. John Ferreira, age 89, of 23 Narrows Road, Bristol, died Sunday, Oct. 7, peacefully surrounded by his loving family at Miriam Hospital, Providence.

He was married 67 years to the love of his life, Irene "Betty" Ferreira. Born and raised in Bristol and a lifelong resident, he was a son of the late Abilio and Mary (Silvia) Ferreira.

He was a Purple Heart Veteran serving in the US Army during WWII in the European Theatre as a Surgical Technician Fifth Grade with the Medical Detachment 237th General Hospital. He was an electrician for the Kaiser Aluminum and Chemical Corp in both their former Bristol and Portsmouth Plants for 40 years, retiring in 1980. He was a communicant of St. Elizabeth's Church, Bristol and a member of the VFW Post #303, Swansea, MA and a former member of Bristol County Lodge of Elks #1860, Bristol. His great love was being with his family and spending Saturday's with them all.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two children, Carol Ann Cavalieri (Domenic), of Bristol, and John Ferreira, Jr. of Tiverton; four grandchildren, Trisha Cloutier (John Paul), Coral Ferreira, Ann Marie Donnelly (Peter) and James A. Cavalieri (Tiffany); two step grandchildren, Lori Sanchas and Cheryl Ferreira; six great grandchildren, Justine Faria, Lauren and Rachel Cloutier, Catherine and James Donnelly and Brody Cavalieri; and one great great grandson, Javien Nunez. He also leaves two sisters, Eva Andrade of Bristol, and Beatrice Silvia of North Carolina.Ā In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Martin and five brothers, Hypolito, Abilio, Thomas, Alfred and Frank Ferreira.

Funeral services from the Sansone Funeral Home, 192 Wood St., Bristol, wil be held Saturday, Oct. 13, 2012 at 10 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. Elizabeth's Church, 577 Wood St., Bristol. Burial with military honors will follow in North Burial Ground, Hope Street, Bristol. Visitation will be Saturday morning only from 9 to 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Bristol Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 775, Bristol, RI 02809.
