Obituary: Laura Sears Moniz

The 71-year-old Bristol resident will be laid to rest Thursday, Nov. 15.


Laura Sears Moniz, 71, of Bristol, passed away on Nov. 11 at Rhode Island Hospital after a brief illness. A lifelong resident of Bristol, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Rose (Braz) Medeiros.

Laura was employed at Roger Williams University until her retirement. She was an active parishioner at St. Elizabeth's Church and volunteered for various events and programs for the community. Laura also served as a foster grandparent at Bristol Public Schools. She will be remembered as a devoted mother, sister, grandmother and friend who enjoyed dancing, volunteering, cooking and spending time with family.

Moniz is survived by a son, Steven Sears of Seekonk, MA; daughters, Dawn Sears Callaghan of Fairfax, VA and Laurie Allen of Merritt Island, FL; grandchildren, Kenneth, Brandon and Felicia Allen, Cameron, Connor and Caiden Sears, Christian and Siena Callaghan; and a sister, Rose Bookout of Plymouth, MI. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Frank and Joseph Medeiros.

Funeral services from the Sansone Funeral Home, 192 Wood St., Bristol, Thursday, Nov. 15 at 10 a.m. with a Concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. Elizabeth's Church, 577 Wood St., Bristol. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Chestnut Street, Bristol. Visiting hours Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2012 from 4-7 p.m.
