Photos: U.S. Flag Installed On Mount Hope Bridge Thursday
The first-ever flag installation on the Mount Hope Bridge was accomplished Thursday morning.

BRISTOL, RI — The Mount Hope Bridge became a very tall flagpole Thursday, just in time for the Bristol Fourth of July celebration. A U.S. flag is hanging from the north tower of the Mount Hope Bridge. The flag was installed this morning. The flag, which measures 16 by 30,' according to the Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority, is the first ever to be installed on the bridge.
"The placement of the flag is envisioned to celebrate the Bristol Fourth of July Parade and the events leading up to the parade, which is the oldest celebration of Independence Day in the nation," RITBA said.
The flag is on the tower near the Bristol side of the bridge and is not immediately visible on the Portsmouth side.
