Police Not Yet Sure What Caused Morning Rollover
Police say they don't think that speed was a factor in the accident Friday morning.
are investigating what caused a around 8:38 a.m. this morning on Metacom Avenue near Sherman Avenue.
According to police, a black vehicle collided with a white vehicle that was stopped in the Southbound lane on Metacom Avenue near Sherman Avenue. Police said that the black vehicle, operated by a 40-year-old woman from Brooklyn, NY, struck the rear driver's side of the stopped vehicle, operated by a 35-year-old woman from Warwick. Following the initial hit, the black vehicle did not stop, but attempted to pass the white vehicle. It then rolled over, passenger side first, onto the roof.
Bristol Police Lt. Brian Burke said that officials are unsure why the vehicle proceeded to flip over after the collision. However, police suggest that the woman driving the vehicle may have attempted to overcompensate steering in the opposite direction, which flipped the car onto the roof and landed on the median.
