Quakers Defeat Huskies in Girls' Lacrosse Season Finale
Moses Brown School of Providence rebounded from an early two-goal deficit to defeat Mt. Hope, 16-7, in a Division I-North clash Tuesday night in Bristol.

Although success was elusive, spirits remained high as the Mt. Hope High School girls’ lacrosse team concluded a challenging first season in Division I-North Tuesday night, losing to visiting Moses Brown School of Providence, 16-7, in its 2011 season finale.
In rainy, wet and cold weather conditions, the Huskies were simply outplayed by the skillful Quakers, who parlayed crisp passing and shooting attacks with a stout defense to overcome a quick two-goal deficit at the start of the contest. Moses Brown improved to 8-7 on the year, while Mt. Hope concluded at 0-13 against Division I rivals and 0-13-1 overall.
Hannah Saris netted 6 goals and Rachel Falk contributed 5 goals as Moses Brown zoomed to an 8-3 advantage by halftime, withstood two Husky charges in the second period, and pulled away in the closing minutes to mark “Senior Day” for the hosts. Brittany Terra collected 3 goals for Mt. Hope and Mara Newland added 2 scores, while netminder Alexandra Threadgill kept the contest respectable by making 17 saves (many from close range).

The Huskies opened the game with a bang as Terra found the back of the net just 14 seconds following the opening face-off and Brooke Pacheco followed up 95 seconds later with a goal when Moses Brown goalie Jordan Greer (10 saves) mishandled a shot and accidentally knocked it into her net.
Goals by Saris, Claire Costello and Mackenzie Reimer within a span of 3:24 put Moses Brown ahead by a 3-2 margin, and after Sophia Andreadis evened the count at 3-3 for the Huskies with 14:41 left in the first half, the guests dominated the remainder of the session. After Falk tallied twice to put the Quakers ahead for good, Saris followed with three straight scores – the last one with just nine seconds left in the period – to produce the 8-3 spread at intermission.

Scores by Terra and Newland in the initial six minutes of the second chapter reduced the discrepancy to 8-5, but the Quakers countered with two more goals from Saris and a solo score by Lucy Green to open an 11-5 bulge. Mt. Hope, refused to quit and narrowed the gap to 11-7 with 9:15 to go after goals by Newland and Terra, but Greer was flawless the rest of the way and Moses Brown added three scores by Rachel Falk and solo tallies from Saris and Audrey Falk to wrap up its assault.
At the conclusion of the contest, Ferreira said she was pleased with her squad’s effort and performance.
“I think we played a great game today,” she said. “This was our first year in Division I and all season long, we’ve been playing against teams with girls who have been playing lacrosse for most of their lives. But our girls always worked hard and never gave up. I love my team and wouldn’t trade it for any other team.”
