Updated: Fire Department Investigating Structure Fire on State Street
The Fire Department put out a fire at 215 State St., according to fire Chief Michael DeMello. No one was injured.

BRISTOL, RI—No one was hurt in Tuesday morning's apartment fire at 215 State St. According to fire Chief Michael A. DeMello, the fire alarms alerted everyone around 12:45 p.m.
It took the Bristol Fire Department only about 15 minutes to knock down the fire, which was out around 1:04 p.m.
Two people were displaced, and the Red Cross is helping them with a place to stay. They cannot stay in the apartment tonight, he said.

No firefighters and no pets were injured, he said. Although some pets were in the apartment building, they were not affected by the fire, which was confined to one unit on the other side of the structure.
The apartment building has eight units.

The fire department sent three engines, a ladder truck and a rescue to the scene, he said. Portsmouth, Warren and Swansea provided station coverage and mutual aid.

Chief DeMello credited the fire alarms with alerting residents and firefighters.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, he said.
