āI am pleased that once again this year U.S. News has recognized Roger Williams University as one of the best universities among the 187 universities in our region,ā RWU President Donald J. Farish said. āAnd I am proud to see RWU recognized as a ābest college for veteransā and a ābest undergraduate engineeringā school among universities not offering the doctorate. We froze tuition for five years, thereby making our university more affordable to more students, but we were still able to maintain our quality, as recognized by U.S. News.ā
In part, RWUās ranking reflects a 14-to-1 student/faculty ratio and the fact that nearly half of all classes contain fewer than 20 students while just 0.4 percent of classes contain 50 students or more.

Regional universities provide a full range of undergraduate majors and masterās programs but few, if any, doctoral programs. The universities in this category are not ranked nationally but rather against their peer group in one of four regions ā North, South, Midwest and West ā because they tend to draw students most heavily from surrounding states.
