Science and Math Headline Family Event at Colt Andrews
Hands-on exhibits and an exciting science demonstration make for a fun night.
On Friday night, March 25, Colt-Andrews was transformed into a laboratory for the elementary school’s many budding scientists and mathematicians. Science and Math night, the school’s third annual, is one of the years’ highlights and was once again a big success.
With exhibits ranging from circumference estimation, the science of soap bubbles, and using measuring skills to create dog treats (for the benefit of the residents of the Bristol Animal Shelter), there was plenty of opportunity for hands-on experimentation in the Andrews gym.
Midway through the evening the action moved to the Colt Auditorium for an exciting physics and chemistry presentation by POW! Science!, which focused on Newton’s Laws and Bernoulli’s Principle. The highlights of the demostration were one very contained explosion, and one, involving diet cola and Mentos, which witnesses claim was decidedly less contained.

It was a great night, with a strong turnout by students and their parent chaperones. According to Colt Andrews principal Tracey McGee, “There was definitely excitement in the air!”
