Sheep Shearing & Spinners Guild Picnic at the Farmers Market!
Watch the Mount Hope Farm sheep lose their coats, and see the RI Spinners Guild at work--while you shop at the market!
Saturday,June 4th at the Farmers Market: we will celebrate spring and the launch of the outdoor market season with the annual Mount Hope Farm Sheep Shearing and the Rhode Island Spinners Guild Picnic (and there's a good chance that the Mount Hope Farm baby goats will stroll down to the market to check out all the action!)
If you've seen the Mount Hope Farm Sheep Shearing in past years then you know you're in for quite a show. A self-described "Sheep Whisperer," Andy is a true master of his craft, and one of only a handful of those in the northeast still practicing shepherding & sheep shearing today. He's heading down from Vermont to demonstrate the art of shearing, as he assists Mount Hope's English Southdown Ewes with the removal of their winter coats! Andy will be putting on a couple of entertaining and informative "shearing shows" during the market, at roughly 9:30 and 10:45.
The Rhode Island Spinners Guild will also be holding their Annual Spinning Picnic in the market circle, demonstrating their craft, so you can see what happens to all that beautiful wool once it's off the sheep... Bring your cooler bags, get your market shopping done, and stay to watch the shearing!
