The Kulprits Continue to Shine at Gillary's
The Kulprits had another successful performance at Gillary's Tavern.
Local cover band, The Kulprits, played at Gillary’s Tavern on Friday night. Inside Gillary’s you were immediately greeted by the scene of a small local bar with great character. Almost everyone there knew each other; they even knew the band members.
The Kulprits have five members, lead singer DJ Burns, bass player Jeremy Kindsvatter, rhythm guitarist Michael Blank, guitarist Cody Peixoto, and drummer Kurtis Bento.
As the start time approached, each musician went up one by one and made sure that their instruments were tuned and that all the equipment was working. The regular background music began to fade as the band stepped onto the stage.

“Check 1, 2, 3. Gillary’s, how are you guys doing tonight,” said lead singer DJ Burns.
The Kulprits then burst into their rendition of The Middle by Jimmy Eat World followed by Green Day’s When I Come Around.

The Kulprits perform every weekend in locations all around Rhode Island, including Bristol, Portsmouth, Providence, and Pawtucket. They play a large range of songs, from rock to country.
“We do pretty much everything,” said Burns.
As time passed more and more people filtered into the bar. Some of the newcomers would walk up to the stage and casually greet the band before finding a place to watch the performance. It was clear that this was not their first time playing at Gillary’s.
A few songs in Burns’ microphone stopped working but there was not even a moment of hesitation. Burns began playing air guitar while the rest of the band fluidly switched to a new song. As soon as the microphone was fixed, Burns jumped back to singing without missing a beat.
Burns, 23, has been playing with the band for five years and he is one of the newer members. After the old singer left the band needed a replacement and had seen Burns perform shortly before and asking him to join.
“If I could do it forever I would,” said Burns. “I inspire everybody to go for it, whether you think you have it or you don’t.”
The Kulprits encouraged people to sing along and enjoy the music. They wanted friends, family, and bar goers to have a great time. The Kulprits created a great vibe at Gillary’s Tavern and will again soon.
