These Are The Top 10 Safest Towns In Rhode Island: Safewise
The Ocean State was ranked one of the safest in the country, coming in at seventh lowest nationwide for violent crime.

BRISTOL, RI ā Bristol was named the safest town in Rhode Island, according to the latest State of Safety in America ranking from Safewise.com. The report named the safest cities in the country, based on crime rates and other data from the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
This is the second consecutive year Bristol has taken the top slot. In 2021, Bristol was named the safest for the first time, after coming in second place behind South Kingstown.
"The Bristol Police Department is happy to report that we were listed as #1 for the 2022 Safest Cities Report," Bristol police said in a statement. "We want to thank Town Administrator Contente, Town Council and Town leaders and departments for their support of the Bristol Police Department. Additionally, Chief Lynch wants to thank the dedicated officers and civilian support staff of the department, who passionately and professionally watch over the Town with competence."

The Ocean State was ranked one of the safest in the country, coming in at seventh lowest nationwide for violent crime and sixth lowest for property crime. In the last year, the state reported 2.3 violent crimes per 1,000 people, which is well below the national average.

Despite this, Rhode Island residents are more concerned about their safety than the average American, SafeWise said. According to the report, 53 percent of residents reported being concerned on a daily basis that a crime might happen to them. The majority of Rhode Islanders said they were most concerned they will be a victim of package theft.
