BRISTOL, R.I. ā Lively barks and wagging tails punctuated the excitement as Roger Williams University celebrated the grand opening of its new dog park, a dedicated space for the universityās four legged-friends and their human companions. Opening day at Rogerās Dog Parkbrought together more than 25 dogs of all sizes (and their humans), eager to explore every inch of the park and make new furry friends.
Rogerās Dog Park was made possible through fundraising from the RWU community. Located next to the Rugby Field, the park has two areas, one for small breeds and one for larger breeds, creating space that is safe for all types of dogs. Anyone from the university community or the public is welcome to use the new space. The park is also open to any student, faculty, and staff member who would like to play with dogs visiting campus, once asking their owners for permission to pet and interact with the dogs.

President Ioannis Miaoulis, who instituted an initiative to permit university community members to bring their dogs to campus, cut the ribbon to the park alongside RWUās first dog, Roger, allowing the namesake golden retriever the opportunity to officially welcome all to the dog park.
āThis dog park represents a part of the legacy I am honored to leave at Roger Williams that celebrates my love for dogs and my vision for a vibrant, inclusive campus,ā Miaoulis said. āI hope it continues bringing our community together and honoring the bond we share with our four-legged friends for generations.ā
The dog park marks another step in RWUās efforts to foster a more pet-friendly environment, reflecting the universityās commitment to enhancing student life and workplace wellness. Itās a great place that will provide everyone, paws or not, a space to enjoy the company of others.
