Volunteer Information Session at Herreshoff Marine Museum
Join us this Saturday April 11th from 10am to noon for a volunteer info session.
“Believe me, my young friend, there is nothing - absolutely nothing - half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats” says Rat to Mole in the “Wind In The Willows”.
If you subscribe to this mantra, then the Herreshoff Marine Museum on the Bristol waterfront needs you! If you’re interested in classic yachts, Bristol history, the America’s Cup or you just like being around the water, you’re going to love this place. Our volunteers make this museum work, and we need your help in the following areas:
- Museum Guides – Learn about the history of the Herreshoff Manufacturing Company and its founders, greet visitors to the Museum, conduct visitor tours and assist with school field trips to the Museum.
- Gardeners – tend the Museum’s gardens and flowers.
- Boat Maintenance – help maintain our boats, both those on display and the ones we use.
- Exhibits – help maintain, design and improve exhibits.
- Store Clerks – work in the Museum store and meet and greet visitors to the Museum.
- Docks and Waterfront – help manage our docks and moorings, greet and assist visitors to the marina.
- Collections Care – assist the curator and the registrar in identifying, cataloging and caring for the Museum’s collections.
- Facilities – help maintain our campus buildings, including painting, carpentry, plumbing and electrical work.
- Reliance Project – Join the team in building the 1/6-scale model of America’s Cup winner Reliance, a project that will become one of the world’s premier yacht models.
HMM volunteers enjoy a range of perks including discounted or free admission to Museum events, discounts at the Museum store, free admission to partner museums and special events and field trips exclusively for volunteers. The minimum age for acceptance as a volunteer is sixteen, and HMM volunteers must commit to a minimum of at least four hours per week and at least 120 hours per year.
