Warren ACO Charged with Stealing Shelter Donations

Police said Heidi Garrity allegedly used $9,000 in donations for personal use over a two-year period.

A Warren animal control officer is facing felony charges for allegedly embezzling more than $9,000 in donations from the Warren Animal Shelter.

Police Chief Peter T. Achill said in a release that Heidi Garrity was charged with embezzlement, unlawful appropriation of funds and larceny, all felonies for the alleged thefts, which occurred between 2012 and 2014.

Achill said that the donations were deposited into Garrity’s personal accounts.

Town Manager Thomas D. Gordon ordered Garrity suspended without pay until her charges are disposed.

Warren police and the state Attorney General’s Office investigated the crime for several months, police said.

Garrity has not been working since Sept. of 2013 due to an unrelated matter.

Garrity was arraigned and released on personal recognizance. She is due to return to court on Aug. 14 for a prearraignment disposition conference in Sixth Division District Court.
