Warren Library Receives Book Shipment From Library of Congress

Library of Congress Surplus Books Program sends free books to schools, libraries, and non-profit organizations.

WARREN, RI — The George Hail Free Library received a shipment of new books on Wednesday from the Library of Congress in Washington, DC, delivered by Congressman David Cicilline. The shipment is part of the Library of Congress Surplus Books Program, which sends surplus books to schools, libraries, and non-profit organizations.

"There is nothing more important than providing the next generation of Rhode Islanders with every resource they need to succeed," Cicilline said. "This delivery marks the first in a series of stops at libraries throughout the First District to deliver books directly from the Library of Congress. I welcome any libraries or schools who are interested in participating to reach out to my office directly."

In May, Cicilline announced that his office would be taking part in the program. Over the coming weeks, he will be delivering shipments to other area libraries and schools.

Patricia Redfearn, the library's director, said the books "found a good home" in Warren.

"This delivery of books will provide Warren residents with even more literary resources to enrich their minds and better their lives," Redfearn said.
