Warren Man ID'd as Fatal Boston Trench Flood Victim

Robert Higgins was one of the two men killed in a tragic incident in Boston's South End Friday.

BOSTON, MA — Family members have identified the two men killed when they became stuck in a flooded trench in South End to the Boston Globe. City officials have not released their identities.

One of the men was from Warren, NBC10 has confirmed.

The two men were identified as Robert Higgins, 47, of Warren and Kelvin Mattocks, 53, of Brockton, Mass. Mattocks was a father of four.

The workers were employed by Atlantic Drain, a company with a litany of violations and fines from the Occupational Health and Safety Administration. A suddenly frantic situation ended in tragedy as the two workers died after being trapped in a 2-by-20-foot trench in the area of 10 Dartmouth Street, according to the Boston Fire Department. The flooding was apparently caused by a water main break.
