WARREN, RI — As Rhode Island enters phase two of reopening following the state's coronavirus shutdown, the Warren Police Department announced officers will no longer take part in birthday parades in town. The socially distanced parades allowed children who weren't able to have a traditional birthday party still celebrate their special day.

"We have enjoyed participating in these events, and it has been an honor to bring happiness to these children during a difficult time," the department said. "With the busy summer season upon us, it will be difficult for us to continue this service."

When the state entered phase two on June 1, social gathering limits were raised to 15 people, allowing socially distanced birthday parties to resume. For this reason, the department will no longer accept requests to appear at birthday celebrations.
