Warren Police Train Hugh Cole School How to Handle a Shooter
Police conducted a shooter drill at Hugh Cole School last week.
If you happened to see the line of cruisers in front of one afternoon last week, don't be alarmed. Officers were visiting the school to conduct an active shooter drill to ensure that teachers, students, administration and police were on the same page in a worst-case scenario.
After the principal made the initial lockdown call over the intercom, police gathered with administrators to discuss the plan of attack had it been a real scenario.
"We have our own procedure and so does the school so it's good to get in here and make sure everyone is on the same page," said Sergeant Roland Brule.

Although the exact procedure is confidential for safety reasons, Sgt. Brule could comment in saying that the school did a good job.
"We do this to work out the kinks so that everyone would know what to do if there was really a shooter in the school," he said. "There were a few small things that were done wrong, but now they know."

The Warren Police Department is not required to run through a number of mandatory drills at the schools, but Sgt. Brule said they are more than happy to spend an hour there.
"We do it to ensure their safety," he said. "That's what we're here for."
