A recap of the Bristol Fourth of July Committee's annual tennis tournament winners.

Despite high temperatures and intermittent rain, the Bristol Fourth of July Committee held their annual tennis tournament on Saturday and Sunday, July 23 and 24, at the Mt. Hope High School.

There were 30 participants from RI and Mass who competed in singles and in teams over the weekend.

Ten women, mostly high school and college age, participated in the Women's Singles event. Abby Barton of Barrington played Jenna Ramos in the finals, and won with a score of 6-2,6-2. Barton was the runner-up of the women's singles and also the mixed doubles winner in 2010. Barton says she plans to play tennis at Trinity College.

In the Men's Singles tournament, Joe Ramos, the 2010 men's singles winner and Nick Carter battled it out. But Ramos was defeated this year by Carter, with final scores of 6-7, 6-4, 6-2.

There were 16 participants in the Men's Doubles event. Al and Sunil Jagannath had a long and exciting match against Nick Carter and
Phil Viera. The father and son duo were the 2011 men's doubles winners.
