1. Central Falls Panel Backs $43.9M Dual-Language School Bid (upriseri.com) — Central Falls' school building committee has endorsed a $43.9 million construction contract for the city's new dual-language pre-K–8 school, moving it on to the school committee and purchasing board this month. Demolition of the old high school should be visibly underway by mid-September, with no road closures expected, and the new school targeted to open for students in September 2028.
2. Potential school bus strike put on hold amid negotiations (turnto10.com) — Families in Central Falls should know a potential school bus strike by First Student drivers has been delayed, but no contract agreement has been reached yet. Drivers serving Central Falls and several neighboring districts are still negotiating with the company and Teamsters Local 251, meaning parents may still need backup plans if talks break down in the coming days.
3. AI continues to grow in the classroom (wpri.com) — Teachers working in Central Falls are being offered free training on how to use artificial intelligence in their classrooms, including a year of access to Anthropic tools. Teach for America Rhode Island is helping local educators offload administrative tasks and design more engaging lessons, from math problem sets to essay counterarguments, so they can spend more time connecting directly with students.
4. RI Ranks First in US Fire Spending, RIPEC Report Finds (upriseri.com) — Central Falls stands out in a new RIPEC report for having more than 1,000 police calls per officer, among the highest workloads in Rhode Island. The study finds Rhode Island leads the nation in per-capita fire spending and ranks high in police costs, driven largely by staffing, overtime, and pension obligations that ultimately flow through local property taxes.
