Charlestown Farm Day Returns Aug. 29 With Self-Guided Tour of Local Farms

Charlestown will put its agricultural community in the spotlight later this month as the town prepares for the second annual Charlestown Farm Day.

The event is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 29, 2026, and will allow residents and visitors to explore participating farms throughout town through a self-guided tour.

Unlike a traditional fair or agricultural exhibition, Farm Day does not center around one location or require visitors to follow a set schedule. Instead, participants can decide which farms they want to visit and explore them at their own pace.

The format is designed to make the experience more personal while giving visitors an opportunity to see the diversity of Charlestown's agricultural community.

At each participating location, visitors will have an opportunity to meet farmers, learn about their operations and gain a better understanding of the work that goes into maintaining a farm.

The event also aims to bring greater attention to the importance of agriculture in Charlestown.

While farms can be a familiar part of the local landscape, much of the work that takes place on them happens out of public view. Farm Day offers residents a chance to get a closer look at that work and meet the people responsible for keeping local agricultural operations going.

Organizers say the event is intended to highlight the hard work, resilience and dedication of Charlestown's farmers while educating the community about the importance of agriculture.

Each participating farm has its own story, making the day an opportunity for discovery as much as education.

Visitors may find differences in the types of crops grown, farming practices, products and day-to-day operations from one location to another. That variety is part of what organizers hope will make the event valuable for both longtime Charlestown residents and people who are newer to the community.

There is also a larger conversation behind the event.

Agriculture is an important part of Charlestown's history and remains an important part of its present-day identity. Maintaining working farms requires more than simply preserving land. The event is being sponsored by theCharlestown Economic Improvement Commission and the Agricultural Preservation Committee.

For residents, the self-guided format means there is no requirement to spend the entire day at one location. Participants can choose where they want to go, how long they want to stay and how many farms they want to visit.
