Joseph D. Mercier, Jr., of Austin Farm Road, Exeter, RI passed away on Thursday, November 28, 2013 at Coventry Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Coventry, RI. Born in Providence, RI he was the son of the late Joseph D., Sr. and Sarah (Stapleton) Mercier.
Joseph was a truck driver for twenty-nine years for Amtrol until retiring. He was a US Navy Veteran serving during the Korean War and was discharged from the US Navy vessel, USS Fiske. He was a member of the PIC Club of West Warwick, RI, and a former member of the VFW Post #144, Hope Valley, RI.
Joseph is survived by two brothers; Robert E. Mercier and Daniel D. Mercier, three sisters; Margaret L. Harris, Arlene L. Palombo and Barbara M. Kelner and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister; Marjorie R. Mercier.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, December 2, 2013 at 10:00 am in the Gorton-Menard Funeral Home and Crematory, 721 Washington Street, Coventry, RI. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, December 1, 2013 from 2:00 to 5:00 pm. Burial will be in the RI Veterans Cemetery, Exeter, RI. Please omit flowers.Â
