69 Pounds of Marijuana Seized By RI State Police

According to Police, four large garbage bags were found containing 69 individual vacuum-sealed bags each filled with one pound of marijuana.

WEST GREENWICH, RI — Rhode Island State Police seized 69 pounds of marijuana at a traffic stop Tuesday night at Interstate 95.

The suspect was identified as Liyin Zhou, 36 of Flushing, New York. He's charged with felony drug trafficking charges after state police seized $140,000 worth of marijuana.

According to State Police, four large garbage bags were found containing 69 individual vacuum-sealed bags each filled with one pound of marijuana. The marijuana was seized, along with $1,222 in cash.

State Police stopped Zhou for speeding at Interstate 95 North near Weaver Hill Road in West Greenwich. Police said he was travelling 77 mph in a 65 mph zone.

Zhou was taken to the State Police Hope Valley Barracks and held overnight. Arraignment in Third Division is District Court is scheduled for Wednesday morning.
