WARWICK, RI — A Warwick elementary school teacher was arrested and charged with possession of child pornography, police announced Tuesday. Richard Conti, 69, of Warwick, is a fifth-grade teacher at Contrell F. Hoxsie Elementary School and coach of the varsity softball team at Pilgrim High School.
Conti was investigated by the Rhode Island Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force after investigators said they found that someone living at Conti's Norfolk Road address was accessing child pornography online.
Conti was charged with one count of possession of child pornography and arraigned Tuesday in Third District Court. In addition to his $2,500 bail, Conti was ordered not to have any contact with minors and is required to limit his internet use.
Conti has worked at Contrell F. Hoxsie Elementary for the past 21 years, and aside from coaching girls softball he also serves as an umpire for local sports teams.
If convicted, Conti could face up to five years in prison and/or up to $5,000 in fines.
