1. Charges dismissed against Coventry councilor in threat case (rilawyersweekly.com) — A felony charge of threatening a public official against Coventry Town Councilor Scott Copley has been dismissed at the request of former council president Hillary Lima, who cited mounting legal costs. Copley, now back on the council after resigning last year, says the case raises concerns about how political disputes in Coventry can escalate into criminal complaints and potentially discourage residents from seeking office.
2. RI Delegation Delivers Nearly $4.5 Million for Local Firefighters (senate.gov) — Coventry's Central Coventry Fire District is getting nearly $500,000 in federal funding to replace its heavily used ambulance, part of a broader $4.5 million package for Rhode Island fire departments. The money will upgrade equipment, training, and emergency vehicles statewide, aiming to improve firefighter safety and emergency response in Coventry and neighboring communities.
3. The best local Halloween displays of 2026 in RI, Mass. (wpri.com) — Coventry families can enjoy two standout Halloween displays this month: Haunting of Highwood Estates on Ginger Trail and Creepy Conifer Court on Conifer Court, both open weekends from dusk with animatronics, fog, and walk-through experiences. The wider guide also maps dozens of other elaborate yard haunts across Rhode Island and nearby Massachusetts, many collecting donations for local charities.
4. Upcoming Registration Deadline for November 3 General Election (newportthisweek.com) — Coventry voters have until Sunday, October 4, to drop off voter registration forms at the Coventry Town Hall drop box on Flat River Road for the November 3 statewide election. You can also register or request a mail ballot online, but local in-person drop-off will be available until 4 p.m. that Sunday.
