1. Coventry Building Committee Reviews Roof Change Orders (upriseri.com) — Coventry's Building Committee reviewed about $130,000 in change orders for a middle school roof project and heard that high school sprinkler upgrades should be largely finished around November 1. Officials say the roof changes, including switching to a fully adhered system, remain within budget, while wastewater, well, and auditorium upgrades plus future priorities like doors and windows are also moving ahead. Expect paving around the school driveway later in October and possible construction over school breaks.
2. The best local Halloween displays of 2026 in RI, Mass. (wpri.com) — Coventry families have two standout neighborhood haunts to explore this October: Haunting of Highwood Estates on Ginger Trail and Creepy Conifer Court on Conifer Court. Both offer weekend evening displays with animatronics, fog, lighting, and walk-through experiences starting around Columbus Day and October 5, weather permitting. The broader guide also lists dozens of other Rhode Island and nearby Massachusetts Halloween displays if you're up for a short drive.
3. Upcoming Registration Deadline for November 3 General Election (newportthisweek.com) — Coventry voters have until this Sunday, October 4, to register for the November 3 statewide election, with a convenient drop box at Coventry Town Hall on Flat River Road open until 4 p.m. The state also reminds residents that mail ballot applications are available now, with a request deadline of October 13 at 4 p.m. You can register or check your status anytime at vote.ri.gov.
4. Lox & Loaded: Jewish gun club opening chapter in Coventry (coastalabc.com) — A new chapter of Lox & Loaded, a Jewish-focused gun club, is launching in Coventry with monthly meetings at Midstate Gun Company, emphasizing firearm safety and training. Organizers say rising antisemitism has increased interest, and the first official meeting in November will focus solely on safety before anyone handles a gun. Membership is open to Jewish residents and allies for an annual fee.
