Bobby Nardolillo to Run Against Sheldon Whitehouse for U.S. Senate

On Monday, Nardolillo, a Republican state representative, kicks off his campaign with an official announcement.

COVENTRY, RI — State Rep. Bobby Nardolillo is running for the U.S. Senate against Democrat Sheldon Whitehouse. On Monday, he kicks off his campaign with an official announcement. The event is set for Monday, May 15, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Coventry VFW Hall, 29 South Main St., Coventry. Admission is free, but campaign donations will be accepted.

"I feel that Rhode Island has so much potential, and is anchored down with failed leadership," he said when asked why he's in the race. "I want to be Rhode Islanders' voice in Washington. I want to fight for their issues and concerns. I want to make Rhode Island proud by representing our State with respect and dignity. Rhode Island Deserves Better and I will fight until we get it. That is my promise."

Nardolillo supported President Trump's military action against Syria and his choice of Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch. Whitehouse said the strike against Syria met his "standards for responding to atrocity: a limited action; with a clear objective; that is not the beginning of American ‘boots on the ground’ military operations.” But he voted 'no' on Gorsuch.

"With our new administration, comes great potential for Rhode Islands voice to be heard, but with our current federal delegation, we risk being overlooked," Nardolillo said. "I won't allow it. I will fight, and Rhode Islanders voices will be heard."
