Coventry Crews Deal with Oil Spill on Main Street

The oil leaked from a dump truck, leaving a trail nearly 1,000 feet long.

Coventry firefighters put out fires. They also sometimes find themselves on oil spill cleanup duty.

That was the case on Wednesday when Capt. Rusty Giles commanded a crew who responded to Main Street near the police station to clean up an oil spill trail nearly 1,000 feet long.

Members of the Central Coventry Fire District said that a dump truck had a hydraulic or oil line failure, causing oil to spill for a distance.

Crews used Speedi Dri absorbent to sop up the oil before sweeping away the mess.

Crews were on scene for about an hour as Coventry police directed traffic. At the same time, crews responded to a motor vehicle accident with injuries and a box alarm elsewhere in town.
