Firefighters said the fire was contained to the corner of the room but smoke spread throughout the entire facility and took time to clear out.

Residents were allowed back in after cleanup efforts.

The state Fire Marshal is investigating the fire.

Firefighters commended staff at the facility for their quick thinking and adherence to safety protocols.

“The staff clearly demonstrated their knowledge of the [safety] plan and remained calm to protect the residents,” firefighters said in a post on the Central Coventry Fire District Facebook page. “A job well done.”

Sunny Villa is located in the boundaries of the Coventry, or Anthony, Fire District.

When the fire broke out, the Coventry Fire District had no crews available to respond.
