Coventry Family Settles with Walmart in Suit Filed after Child Ate Drain Cleaner
The child was severely injured after he ate crystal drain cleaner off a store shelf in 2010.

A Coventry family who sued Walmart after their toddler ate drain cleaner in one of their stores in 2010 has settled for an undisclosed sum.
The Providence Journal’s Katie Mulvaney reported Wednesday that the couple reached a settlement with Walmart and Iron Out Inc., who make Drain Out Crystal.
Ryan A. Hogan and Kristen Thatcher sued after their son Ryan opened a can and ate a few handfuls of the product at the Coventry Walmart. He was two at the time.

The child suffered severe injuries and was placed on a breathing tube.
The suit alleged that Iron Out had a defective safety cap on their product and Walmart was negligent for putting the product within a child’s grasp.
