Coventry Man Shoots At Roommate Inside Their Apartment: Police

COVENTRY, RI — A Coventry man was arrested Sunday morning after police said she shot at his roommate in their apartment.

David Maldonado, 29, was charged with domestic felony assault, possession of a firearm, and firing in a compact area.

Coventry police said they were called to an apartment complex on Hebert Street for a report of gun shots. When officers arrived, they spoke with a man who said his roommate, Maldonado, shot at him, police said.

Moments later, Maldonado approached officers and admitted to trying to shoot his roommate, according to police. Police said Maldonado's shot missed, as the roommate was not injured. But even after admitting to the shooting, Maldonado continued verbally threatening his roommate, police said.

Police said they arrested Maldonado and recovered a gun and a bullet casing inside the apartment.

Further investigation revealed Maldonado and his roommate got in an argument, a fight broke out, and then he shot at his roommate, police said. Following the shooting, the roommate ran outside.

Police said no residents of the apartment complex were injured, and the incident was limited to the two roommates.

Maldonado was arraigned Monday at Kent County District Court in Warwick and was ordered held without bail.
