Coventry Police Ask Volunteers to Suspend Search for Missing Sterling, Conn. Teen

Police asked volunteers to not search for Todd Allen in the woods tonight due to the danger posed by bad weather and cold temperatures.

COVENTRY, RI —Police have asked volunteers who went into the woods searching for Todd Allen to suspend the search, due to the danger posed by falling temperatures and inclement weather. Earlier tonight, two women became lost in the woods and needed police assistance. It's too dangerous to continue the search tonight, police advised.

Earlier today, Connecticut State Police said although the State Police continue to be the lead agency in this matter, they suspended their search," according to Trooper Grant Kelly.

However, volunteers and other agencies continued to look for the teen.

Allen, 18, left his home at 42 Dixon Road in Sterling, Conn., at approximately 1 p.m. on Dec. 26. He rode away on his red Honda XR100 dirt bike in an unknown direction of travel. He was last seen wearing blue jeans, a camouflage sweatshirt and a back pack."

Allen is described as a white male, approximately 5’ 10”, 130 lbs, with brown hair and blue eyes," police said. "He frequents the Rails to Trails bike path that goes from Sterling into Coventry, as well as the area of Ross Pond.

Meanwhile, state police said, "DEEP Environmental Conservation (EnCon) Police will continue to engage in limited search activities on our lands as they patrol in areas of Eastern CT. At this point we are not leading any effort to coordinate search activities with other agencies or volunteer groups."
