Coventry Police Department Seeking Patrol Officer

Application deadline is Friday, Nov. 7.

The Coventry Police Department is now taking applications for a new patrol officer.

Those interested can pick up an application from the Personnel Department in Coventry Town Hall, 1670 Flat River Road, or from the Coventry Police Department, 1075 Main St.

Application can also be found on the Town of Coventry and Coventry Police Department websites.

Applicants are required to possess one of the following to apply:

  • An Associates degree.
  • A minimum of 60 college course credits towards a degree.
  • Two years of active military duty.
  • Four years military reserve/National Guard duty
  • Certificate of graduation from a Police or Law Enforcement Academy.

Applications can be sent to the Personnel Office by 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 7.

Those applying must present these items when handing in their application:

  • Copy of birth certificate or naturalization papers
  • Copy of a valid motor vehicle license
  • Copy of a high school diploma or certified transcript
  • Copy of college diploma, or official transcript or a copy of military discharge (DD214) or proof of Military/Reserve/National Guard service, or a copy of Police/Law Enforcement Academy certificate.
  • A $20 non-refundable free.

Candidates must complete all testing requirements and previous applicants must re-apply.

Candidates must complete all testing requirements including a physical agility test, a written examination and an oral interview.

Individuals who retired from Law Enforcement service in Rhode Island and are enrolled by the Rhode Island Police Officers Commissioned on Standards and Training must bring in a letter of good standing from his or her former chief of police.

The Coventry Police Department encourages women and minorities to apply.
