Coventry Recycling Reminder: Lumber Doesn't Belong In Cart

The Coventry Public Works Department reminded residents that lumber cannot be placed in curbside barrels.

COVENTRY, RI — The Coventry Public Works Department is reminding residents to check their carts before bringing them to the curb for pickup. Twice in as many weeks, recycling carts were full of non-recyclable materials, the department said, which will lead to a fine if the items are not removed.

Lumber was found in recycle carts twice in the past two weeks, from the same Tueday pickup route, the department said. In addition, an entire baby stroller was placed inside a cart, which is in no way recyclable.

Wood can be disposed of properly at the town's transfer station at 1670 Flat River Road. The facility is open Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. noon and 12:30 p.m.to 3 p.m. The transfer station is also open on certain Saturday mornings.

"Throwing lumber in your recycle cart because the Transfer Station was closed is not a valid excuse," the department wrote on Facebook.
