Coventry Woman Charged with DUI in East Greenwich

After she crashed into another car, police said she asked officers if "anything could be done" to keep her from getting into trouble.

A 33-year-old Coventry woman was charged with driving under the influence and other charges by East Greenwich police after she was involved in a crash and found to be drunk, according to a police report.

Sarah Beth Kirinsky, of 6 Manor Drive was arrested shortly after 1 a.m. on Aug. 14 when police responded to a crash involving two cars in the intersection of Main Street and First Avenue.

Kirinsky was sitting in her Honda Pilot and wasn’t hurt, police said, but she had bloodshot eyes and smelled like alcohol as shuffled through her papers while ignoring a patrol officer who kept trying to get her attention.

She started to make a phone call, but the officer persuaded her to stop. She then told police that she was making a turn when the accident happened.

Outside of the car, she was unsteady on her feet, police said, and admitted that she had come from Blu on the Water before the accident happened.

Police asked she take a field sobriety test and she refused “as she did not want to get into trouble,” the police report stated. “She also stated that her police officer friend was coming here right now and she asked if anything could be done so that she does not get into trouble.”

Kirinsky refused another request to take a sobriety test, which prompted police to arrest her for suspicion of DUI.

Once inside the patrol car, a man arrived and was allowed to talk to her briefly through the cruiser window.

“I overheard the male continually advising her not to take any of the tests,” the report stated.

Kirisnky was transported to police headquarters where she refused a breathalyzer. Police also learned that her driver’s license was expired.

Kirinsky was arraigned on Friday in Third Division District Court on the DUI and driving without an expired license charge. The case was continued for further hearing and she will return to court on Sept. 4 for a pretrial conference.

She was also cited for traffic violations.

Police said the accident investigation determined that Kirinsky was driving south on Main Street and made a “very wide” right turn onto First Ave.

“The right turn had been so wide that her vehicle had crossed over to the eastbound lane of travel, resulting in the collision with the other vehicle.”

The driver of the other vehicle was not injured.
