Coventry Woman Injured in Accidental Gunshot Wound

Police said a woman heard a noise and took her gun to confront a possible intruder, but she slipped and the weapon discharged.

COVENTRY, RI — A Coventry woman accidentally shot herself Friday night, while investigating a noise at the back door of her home, police said.

Officers went to 211 Williams Crosssing Road shortly before 11 p.m. to answer a call for a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

In the back of the residence, they found a woman lying face down on the ground. She told police she slipped and the gun went off.

Rescue workers took her to Kent County Memorial Hospital.

Police investigated her story and concluded the shooting was an accident.
