Updated: Coventry Firefighters Battle Structure Fire

COVENTRY, RI — According to the police, firefighters were involved with a structure fire much of Thursday afternoon.

"At approximately 1:15 p.m., Central Coventry Fire responded to 1785 Flat River Rd for a reported structure fire," police said. "Firefighters on scene advised that the house had been evacuated."

"Due to the location of the fire and the fire hydrants, Flat River Road between Read School House Road and Town Farm Road were shut down to traffic."

An investigation as to the cause is pending, the police said.

Police said the road was supposed to reopen by 5 p.m. Thursday.
