Encaustic (hot wax) Painting Class at NE Farm and Artist

Dates 11/7, 11/12, and 11/19
In this three day workshop, you will learn the techniques for a unique painting media – Hot Wax.  Encaustic paintings have been around since the times of ancient Romans and Egyptians.  The media is now being embraced by many contemporary painters.  This class will show you how to use melted beeswax, oil paints as pigments, household appliances and tools to manipulate the media.  We will demonstrate techniques for layering, scrapping back and incorporating collage.  The tools will often take your paintings into new and unexpected directions, so it is great media for loosening up and experimenting.  You do not need to have painting or drawing experience.
All supplies will be provided, including supports, for two paintings.  Some images and ephemera will be provided for students who wish to incorporate collage elements, but they may also bring their own.  Class cost: $75.  Materials Fee: $25
(Last 1/2 hour will be critique and cleanup.  space limited to 6 students)
