Homelessness Takes Its Toll, Physically and Mentally

Mae Organization aims to open a mental health facility. The group needs your help.

Homelessness takes a serious toll, not just on one's physical well-being, but mental health as well. A local non-profit is looking to help.

Mae Organization's mission is to open a facility in which to work with homeless children and adults in facilitating the healing of mental illness, depression and anxiety through art therapy modalities. The group will provide a place of respite "where healing and empowerment will be our focus through various programs," like art therapy, horseback riding therapy, agriculture and cooking. There will also be activities such as the practice of movement, yoga, music and giving back to the community.

Mae Organization, a Coventry-based group, is seeking to raise $30,000. The fundraising campaign just began last week and has seen its first donations rolling in. To read more or help the group raise the funds it needs, click to GoFundMe listing above.
