How Much Snow Fell In RI During 1st Storm Of Winter 2022-23

The state saw a little more snow than predicted during a quick storm Sunday night, with Harrisville seeing the highest recorded total.

COVENTRY, RI — We haven't even had the solstice yet, but with Sunday night's snow, winter is here for real.

The first real snow event of the 2022-23 winter hit Rhode Island and dropped a bit more snow than predicted — especially in more inland communities like Burrillville and Coventry. Newport County saw the least amount of snow in the Ocean State, with communities like Tiverton getting less than a half-inch.

The next chance of snow will come on Friday. The current forecast calls for rain mixed with a little snow in southern New England, except in Western Massachusetts, where 3 to 6 inches could fall.

"At this time, it appears the most considerable snow accumulations will be across northern New England, which is good news for winter sports enthusiasts!" the weather service said Monday morning.
