Norman R. Briggs, Sr., 84, of Plain Meeting House Road, West Greenwich, RI passed away on Friday, November 1, 2013 at the South County Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, North Kingstown, RI. Born in East Greenwich he was the husband of Madeline L. (Lussier) Briggs. They were married for sixty-two years. He was the son of the late John R. and Leta (Devoe) Briggs. Norman was employed as a maintenance person for URI, W. Alton Jones Campus until retiring. He was a US Army Veteran of the Korean War. Besides his wife he is survived by five children; Norman R. Briggs, Jr., Ann L. Olszewski, Gary L. Briggs, Debra S. Auld and Ernest J. Briggs, a sister; Muriel Sprague, twelve grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. He was predeceased by two brothers; Alan and William Briggs, and four sisters; Beverly Lukowicz, Virginia Briggs, Frances Johnson and Caroline Boisclair. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 5, 2013 at 10:00 am in the Gorton-Menard Funeral Home, 721 Washington Street, Coventry, RI. Calling hours will be held on Monday from 4:00 to 8:00 pm. Burial with Military Honors will be in the RI Veterans Cemetery, Exeter, RI.
