Police Investigating Sunday Morning Fatal Accident

A motorist was killed in a rollover accident early Sunday morning, police said.

COVENTRY, RI -- Police are investigating a fatal accident Sunday morning.

Shortly after midnight, the police went to Hopkins Hollow Road to investigate a 911 call about a car off the road and into the woods.

A second caller told police the car was on its roof; the roof was crushed; and no one appeared to be near the vehicle.

Western and Central Coventry rescue workers found one person, the operator, in the car. They used the Jaws of Life to extricate him.

Western Coventry emergency worked to save the patient and took him to Kent County Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

The person's name is being withheld pending notification to family members.

Coventry police are investigating the accident and have rules out drugs and alcohol as the cause. However, speed might have been a factor, police said.

No additional information was available Monday, police said.
